Tour of the JLC: 21-Day Advocacy Challenge, Week 2

Welcome to week two of the 21-Day Advocacy Challenge, part of the Tour of the JLC, a celebration of the anniversary of the founding of the Junior League of Chicago. This week builds on your success from Week 1 and challenges you to increase your advocacy impact.

Missed the first week? You can review the first week of the challenge on our earlier blog post for the activities from last week.

Week 2 Challenge:

  • Monday, November 16: Are you familiar with your Ward and/or Alderperson? Make sure you know who yours is by looking them up.

  • Tuesday, November 17: Now that you’ve identified your Alderperson, research what’s important to them. Familiarize yourself with their stance on the issues and ordinances they are sponsoring. Many Alderperson send out regular newsletters which can be a great resource to keep you in the know about what is happening in your community or ward.

  • Wednesday, November 18: Feeling particularly passionate about one of those issues you just familiarized yourself with? Reach out to your Alderperson about it via email or social media.

  • Thursday, November 19: The Junior League of Chicago’s Advocacy Council identifies and researches policy issues important to the JLC, advocating on its behalf. The Junior League has three focus areas in the Community, including Healthy Lifestyles, Education, and Human Trafficking, and you can read more about each in the JLC Advocacy Papers.

  • Friday, November 20: Find and sign a petition related to one of the JLC policy papers.

  • Saturday, November 21: Share the petition you signed on social media and encourage friends to learn more. Don’t forget to tag #jlchicago!

  • Sunday, November 22: Learn more about Facebook Townhall, a tool to find, follow and contact your elected officials and government services.

The Junior League of Chicago’s (JLC) Advocacy Council identifies and researches policy issues important to the JLC, advocating on its behalf. It builds coalitions with like-minded organizations and promotes awareness and dialogue among JLC membership and the community.
